Administrative Structure

The Department is directed by the Chair (Dr. David W. Niesel). Fiscal operations are managed by the Department Administrator (Ms. Susan Perez), who directly supervises the business office and secretarial staff and who reports to the Chair. A faculty associate (Ms. Mardelle Susman) assists faculty with grant preparation and administrative aspects of grant submissions.

Meetings of the entire faculty are generally held on a quarterly basis to discuss new developments within the Department and/or UTMB.

The Graduate Program in Microbiology and Immunology is directed by the Program Director, currently Dr. Thomas K. Hughes, Jr., who is elected to this position every two years by program faculty. The graduate school Department coordinator is Martha Lewis.
