Microbial degradation of halogenated and aromatic compounds, protein secretion in Y. pestis, development a multiple locus variable number tandem repeat (MLVA) analysis to reveal the ecology and the evolution of B. anthracis, Y. pestis virulence
Dr. Chauhan is studying the molecular mechanisms underlying virulence in Yersinia pestis and focuses development of inhibitors of Y. pestis virulence, determination of novel targets for therapeutics besides antibiotics, and development of novel assays for plague diagnostics and forensics. In the long run, she would like to expand her examination of genetic diversity of select agents, i.e., Y. pestis, to study the pathogenesis of other bio-threat agents.
