Herpes simplex virus pathogenesis and control; prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines.
My clinical interests are in Pediatric Infectious Diseases. My research interests include basic and translational research pertaining to herpes simplex virus infections including the special problems of genital herpes in adolescents and neonatal herpes. Research areas include molecular pathogenesis, immunobiology, neurovirology, development of antivirals, topical microbicides and vaccines, and behavioral science. I have served on numerous review panels at the National Institutes of Health including the Epidemiology study section, the Experimental Virology study section, and served as chair of the Vaccine study section and the Pediatrics study section in the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
