Overview

Replication of hepatitis A virus and hepatitis C virus

Research Interests

Dr. Yi studies positive-strand RNA viruses, especially hepatitis A virus (HAV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV). Her main interest in these two viruses lies in dissecting the mechanism of their replication, via their characteristic adaptation in in vitro cell culture. Her research also aims to elucidate the potential mechanisms of resistance of novel antiviral agents to treat HCV infection. Most recently, Dr. Yi's main research focus has been on developing an HCV cell culture system that is capable of reproducing the entire life cycle of hepatitis C virus in vitro, as the lack of this is the major impediment to HCV research.
