An important source of support for advanced students is the James W. McLaughlin Fellowship Fund, which awards fellowships to predoctoral and postdoctoral students in the fields of infection and immunity. Predoctoral fellowships start at $25,000 per year in FY08.
The McLaughlin Award requires that a research project proposal be submitted; therefore, this fellowship is usually obtained after the student has entered school and selected a field of research.
