Major: ImmunologyMentor: Dr. Premkumar Christadoss
Research Description: Since joining Dr. P. Christadoss’s laboratory, my research focuses on an autoimmune neuromuscular disorder, myasthenia gravis (MG). The production of autoantibodies in MG impairs neuromuscular transmission leading to muscle weakness. Patients with MG are a diverse group which vary by the muscles affected, severity of disease, autoantibodies produced, genetic predisposition, and thymic involvement. My research investigates mechanisms involved in the activation of autoreactive B and autoreactive T cells. Using experimental models of autoimmune diseases we evaluate how pathogens or their components modulate the development of MG.
