Research Description:
Bacillus anthracis, the causative agent of anthrax, is a Category A select agent. I am currently examining the interaction between the highly virulent Ames strain and human macrophages. B. anthracis spores and toxins are capable of modulating the antimicrobial defenses of murine macrophages, but effects on human macrophages have not been fully elucidated. My project involves examining both spore-macrophage interactions, as well as edema toxin-macrophage interactions.
