Research Description:
My current research efforts are focused on the role played by regulatory T cells in the compensatory anti-inflammatory response that occurs following initial systemic inflammation after severe burn injury, leading to an increased susceptibility of burn patients to infection. This includes investigating the use of a hematopoietic cytokine, fms-like tyrosine kinase-3 ligand (Flt3L), as a prophylactic treatment after burn injury, and the identifying the mechanism(s) by which it enhances resistance to a burn wound infection, possibly through modification of innate immune responses to overcome Treg-mediated immune suppression.
