The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is actively researching cures for both common and emerging infectious diseases. These include pathogens such as salmonella, anthrax, HIV and West Nile virus among others. Researchers and students in the Department use world-class facilities such as BSL-3 and BSL-4 containment labs, our Galveston National Laboratory, and other advanced core facilities. We have a vibrant faculty that is committed to graduate and medical student education and career development. The University of Texas Medical Branch is located on historic and pleasant Galveston Island in the Gulf of Mexico. We welcome you to this virtual tour of our Department and look forward to hearing from you.
