My research focuses on the structural biology of bacterial ribosomes, with emphasis on translation mechanisms, antibiotic resistance, and ribosome hibernation in persistent pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Burkholderia pseudomallei. Specific areas of interest include the structural basis of mRNA and tRNA decoding with modified nucleotides, protein synthesis quality control, and mechanisms of resistance to ribosome-targeting antibiotics. Using an integrative approach that combines cryo-EM, cryo-ET, rapid kinetics, and biochemical methods—including qPCR, RNA-Seq, and native ribosome complex isolation—we aim to define the molecular basis of ribosome function and to identify new targets for antimicrobial development.
